Un Junco / dʒʌŋkoʊ /, género Junco, es un pequeño pájaro norteamericano. La sistemática de Junco sigue confundiéndose después de décadas de investigación, con varios autores aceptando entre tres y doce especies. A pesar de tener un nombre que parece derivar del término español para el género de la planta Juncus, estas aves rara vez se encuentran entre las plantas de prisa, ya que prefieren el suelo húmedo, mientras que juncos como el suelo seco. Su hábitat de cría es coníferas o áreas forestales mixtas en toda América del Norte, que van desde la taiga subártica hasta los bosques de montaña de alta altitud en México y América Central hacia el sur hasta Panamá. Las aves del norte migran generalmente más al sur; Las poblaciones del sur son residentes permanentes o migrantes altitudinales, moviéndose sólo una corta pendiente hacia abajo para evitar un clima severo de invierno en las montañas.
