Lenición
En lingüística, la lenición es una especie de cambio de sonido que altera las consonantes, haciéndolas más sonoras. La palabra lenición en sí significa "ablandamiento" o "debilitamiento". La lenición puede ocurrir tanto sincrónicamente como diacrónicamente. La lenición puede implicar cambios tales como hacer una consonante más sonora, haciendo que una consonante pierda su lugar de articulación, o incluso haga que una consonante desaparezca por completo. Un ejemplo de lenición sincrónica en inglés se encuentra en el aleteo en algunos dialectos: el / t / de una palabra como esperar se convierte en el más sonoro en la forma relacionada esperando. Algunos dialectos del español muestran debuccalización de / s / a al final de una sílaba, de manera que se pronuncia una palabra como estamos "somos". Un ejemplo de lenición diacrónica se puede encontrar en las lenguas romances, donde el / t / de patrem latino se convierte en padre italiano y en padre español, mientras que en pai francés y padre portugués ha desaparecido por completo. Junto con la asimilación, la lenición es una de las fuentes primarias del cambio fonológico de las lenguas.
