Mimetismo
En biología evolutiva, el mimetismo es una similitud de una especie a otra que protege uno o ambos. Esta similitud puede ser en apariencia, comportamiento, sonido, olor o ubicación. Las mímicas se encuentran en las mismas áreas que sus modelos. La mímica ocurre cuando un grupo de organismos, los mímicos, evolucionan para compartir características percibidas comunes con otro grupo, los modelos. La evolución es impulsada por la acción selectiva de un receptor de señal o dupe. Las aves, por ejemplo, usan la vista para identificar insectos palatables, evitando al mismo tiempo los modelos nocivos. El modelo es usualmente otra especie excepto en casos de automimicry. El receptor de señal es típicamente otro organismo intermedio como el depredador común de dos especies, pero en realidad puede ser el propio modelo, como una polilla que se asemeja a su depredador araña. Como interacción, el mimetismo es en la mayoría de los casos ventajoso para el mímico y dañino para el receptor, pero puede aumentar, reducir o no tener ningún efecto sobre la aptitud del modelo en función de la situación.
