Miquelet Lock
Miquelet Lock es un término moderno utilizado por coleccionistas y conservadores, en gran medida en el mundo de habla inglesa, que se aplica ampliamente a una forma distintiva de snaplock, originalmente como una forma de ignición de sílex contra el acero, prevalente en España y Portugal, Italia, Los Balcanes, el Norte de África, el Imperio Otomano y en todas las colonias españolas de finales del siglo XVI a mediados del XIX. El origen del término como se aplica a este mecanismo de bloqueo es una cuestión de opinión. Una opinión comúnmente sostenida es que el término fue acuñado por las tropas británicas en la guerra peninsular para describir el estilo particular del mosquete usado por el Miquelet asignado al ejército peninsular de Arturo Wellesley, 1r duque de Wellington. Hay a menudo confusión, o por lo menos una diferencia de opinión, en cuanto a qué constituye un snaplock, snaphaunce, miquelet y un pedernal. El término sierra de hojalata era y todavía se aplica a menudo a cualquier forma de bloqueo de fricción que no sea la ruedecilla con las diversas formas sub-categorizadas como snaphaunce, miquelet, Doglock inglés, Baltic Lock y francés o "verdadero" pedernal. Estrictamente hablando, todos son flintlocks. Sin embargo, el uso actual exige la separación de todas las formas del "true flintock".
