Neutropenia
Neutropenia o neutropaenia, de latín prefijo neutro y sufijo griego-πενία, es un trastorno granulocito caracterizado por un número anormalmente bajo de neutrófilos. Los neutrófilos constituyen usualmente el 50-70% de los glóbulos blancos circulantes y sirven como la principal defensa contra las infecciones destruyendo bacterias en la sangre. Por lo tanto, los pacientes con neutropenia son más susceptibles a las infecciones bacterianas y, sin atención médica inmediata, la condición puede llegar a ser mortal y mortal. La neutropenia puede ser aguda o crónica dependiendo de la duración de la enfermedad. Un paciente tiene neutropenia crónica si la condición dura más de tres meses.
