Nicolás de Cusa
Nicholas de Kues, también conocido como Nicolaus Cusanus y Nicolás de Cusa, era un filósofo, un teólogo, un jurista, y un astrónomo alemanes. Uno de los primeros defensores alemanes del humanismo renacentista, hizo contribuciones espirituales y políticas en la historia europea. Un ejemplo notable de esto son sus escritos místicos o espirituales sobre la "ignorancia aprendida", así como su participación en las luchas de poder entre Roma y los estados alemanes del Sacro Imperio Romano. Legado papal a Alemania desde 1446, fue nombrado cardenal por sus méritos por el papa Nicolás V en 1448 y el príncipe-obispo de Brixen dos años más tarde. En 1459 se convirtió en vicario general en los Estados Pontificios.
