Nitroglicerina
La nitroglicerina, también conocida como nitroglicerina, trinitroglicerina, trinitroglicerina o nitro, se conoce más correctamente como trinitrato de glicerilo o más formalmente: 1,2,3-trinitroxipropano. Es un líquido pesado, incoloro, aceitoso y explosivo más comúnmente producido por el tratamiento de glicerol con ácido nítrico fumante blanco en condiciones apropiadas para la formación del éster de ácido nítrico. Químicamente, la sustancia es un compuesto de nitrato orgánico en lugar de un compuesto nitro, pero el nombre tradicional es a menudo retenido. Desde la década de 1860, la nitroglicerina se ha utilizado como ingrediente activo en la fabricación de explosivos, sobre todo dinamita, y como tal se emplea en la construcción, demolición y industrias mineras. Del mismo modo, desde la década de 1880, ha sido utilizado por los militares como ingrediente activo, y un gelatinizador de nitrocelulosa, en algunos propulsores sólidos, como Cordite y Ballistite. La nitroglicerina es también un componente importante en las pistolas de doble base sin humo usadas por los recargadores. Combinado con la nitrocelulosa, hay cientos de combinaciones usadas por rifle, pistola y recargadores de escopeta.
