Omán
Omán, oficialmente llamado el Sultanato de Omán, es un estado árabe en el suroeste de Asia en la costa sureste de la Península Arábiga. Tiene una posición estratégicamente importante en la boca del Golfo Pérsico. Limita con los Emiratos Árabes Unidos al noroeste, Arabia Saudita al oeste y Yemen al suroeste y también comparte fronteras marinas con Irán y Pakistán. La costa está formada por el Mar Arábigo en el sureste y el Golfo de Omán en el noreste. Los enclaves de Madha y Musandam están rodeados por los Emiratos Árabes Unidos en sus fronteras terrestres, con el Estrecho de Ormuz y el Golfo de Omán formando los límites costeros de Musandam. Desde el siglo XVII, Omán tenía su propio imperio y compitió con Portugal y Gran Bretaña por su influencia en el Golfo Pérsico y el Océano Índico. En su apogeo en el siglo XIX, la influencia o el control de Omán se extendía a través del Estrecho de Ormuz a Irán, y el Pakistán moderno y hasta el sur de Zanzíbar. Como su poder disminuyó en el siglo 20, el sultanato recibió gran influencia del Reino Unido, aunque Omán nunca fue formalmente parte del Imperio Británico, o un protectorado británico.
