Omphacite
Omphacite es un miembro del grupo del pyroxene de los minerales del silicato con la fórmula: Si2O6. Es una variedad variable de piroxeno de color verde pálido o casi incoloro. Las composiciones de omphacite son intermedias entre la augita rica en calcio y la jadeita rica en sodio. Se cristaliza en el sistema monoclínico con formas prismáticas, típicamente geminadas, aunque usualmente anédricas. Su grupo espacial es distinto del de augita y jadeíta. Exhibe la escisión típica cercana al piroxeno de 90 °. Es frágil con gravedad específica de 3,29 a 3,39 y una dureza de Mohs de 5 a 6. Es un componente mineral importante de la eclogita junto con el granate de piropo y también ocurre en facies blueschist y rocas metamórficas UHP. También ocurre en los xenólitos eclogíticos de la kimberlita, así como en las rocas de la corteza metamorfoseadas a altas presiones. Los minerales asociados en los eclogitos incluyen granate, cuarzo o coesita, rutilo, cianita, phengite y lawsonita. Los minerales tales como glaucophane, lawsonite, titanite, y epidote ocurren con el omphacite en las rocas metamórficas de la facies blueschist. El nombre "jade", que suele referirse a rocas hechas de jadeíta, se aplica a veces también a rocas compuestas enteramente de omfacite.
