Óptico
Un óptico es un técnico que diseña, ajusta y dispensa lentes correctivas para la corrección de la visión de una persona. Los ópticos determinan las especificaciones de varios aparatos oftálmicos que darán la corrección necesaria a la vista de una persona. Algunos oftalmólogos registrados o licenciados también diseñan y ajustan aparatos especiales para corregir defectos cosméticos, traumáticos o anatómicos. Estos dispositivos se llaman conchas o ojos artificiales. Otros ópticos registrados o licenciados fabrican lentes según sus propias especificaciones y diseñan y fabrican monturas de gafas y otros dispositivos. Los aparatos oftálmicos correctivos pueden ser lentes de contacto, lentes de gafas, ayudas para la baja visión o prótesis oftálmicas para los que son parcialmente visibles. Los aparatos se montan en el ojo como lentes de contacto o montados en un marco o soporte delante del ojo como gafas o como un monóculo. Los ópticos pueden trabajar en cualquier variedad de entornos como la práctica conjunta, hospitales, centros de atención oftalmológica o tiendas minoristas.
