QUÉ SIGNIFICA PHYSIOGNOMY EN INGLÉS
Fisonomía
Fisiognomía es la evaluación del carácter de una persona o personalidad de su apariencia externa, especialmente la cara. El término también puede referirse a la apariencia general de una persona, objeto o terreno, sin referencia a sus características implícitas, como en la fisonomía de una comunidad de plantas. La credibilidad de este estudio ha variado de vez en cuando. La práctica fue bien aceptada por los filósofos griegos antiguos, pero cayó en descrédito en la Edad Media cuando practicada por vagabundos y bancos de montaña. Fue entonces revivido y popularizado por Johann Kaspar Lavater antes de caer de favor de nuevo a finales del siglo XIX. La fisonomía tal como se entiende en el pasado responde a la definición contemporánea de una pseudociencia. Ninguna evidencia clara indica obras de fisonomía, aunque estudios recientes han sugerido que las apariencias faciales "contienen un núcleo de verdad" sobre la personalidad de una persona. La fisonomía también se conoce a veces como antroposcopía, aunque la expresión era más común en el siglo XIX cuando se originó la palabra.
