La palabra piquetero es un neologismo en el español de Argentina. Viene de piquete, es decir, su significado específico como una demostración de pie o de pie de protesta en un punto significativo. Un piquetero es miembro de una facción política cuyo modus operandi primario se basa en el piquete. El piquete es una acción por la cual un grupo de personas bloquea un camino o una calle con el propósito de demostrar y llamar la atención sobre una cuestión o demanda en particular. La tendencia se inició en Argentina a mediados de los años noventa, durante la administración del presidente Carlos Menem, convirtiéndose en una forma frecuente de protesta que aún prevalece en la escena sociopolítica sudamericana. El setenta por ciento de los piqueteros son mujeres, y algunos de sus líderes son mujeres también, como Milagro Sala de Jujuy. Las organizaciones piqueteros también han sido criticadas a veces por la agresión de múltiples sectores de la sociedad argentina, acusándolas de estar asociadas con el crimen organizado y exigiendo emprender acciones legales contra sus manifestaciones actos contrarios a los dictados de la Constitución argentina que el artículo 14 establece que debe garantizarse A cada ciudadano el derecho a: "...
