Raphe
Raphe tiene varios significados diferentes en la ciencia. En botánica y planktología es comúnmente utilizado cuando se describe una costura o cresta en diatomeas o semillas. En anatomía animal se utiliza para describir una unión estriada de tejido biológico continuo. Existen varios rasgos anatómicos significativos: ▪ El núcleo del rafe es un grupo de núcleos de tamaño moderado que se encuentra en el tronco cerebral y que libera serotonina al resto del cerebro. Se cree que los antidepresivos selectivos de inhibidores de la recaptación de serotonina actúan en estos núcleos. ▪ El rafe bucal que se encuentra en la mejilla y evidencia de la fusión de los procesos maxilares y mandibulares. ▪ El rafe lingual en la lengua. Evidencia física obvia del rafe lingual incluye el frenillo, o banda de membrana mucosa que es visible debajo de la lengua que lo une al suelo de la boca. Si este rafe es demasiado apretado al nacer, el movimiento de la lengua es restringido y se dice que el niño está "atado a la lengua". ▪ El rafe palatino en el techo de la boca. La fusión incompleta del rafe palatino da lugar a un defecto congénito conocido como paladar hendido. ▪ El rafe faríngeo se une a los constrictores faríngeos izquierdo y derecho.
