Lachnanthes es un género de plantas monocotiledóneas en la familia de la bloodwort que contiene solamente una especie, es decir Lachnanthes caroliniana, comúnmente conocido como redroot o bloodroot. La planta es nativa del este de Norteamérica, desde el sureste de Nueva Escocia y Massachusetts en el norte, sur a Florida y Cuba, y al oeste a lo largo del Golfo de México a Luisiana. Prefiere los suelos húmedos, ácidos, generalmente arenosos, restringiéndolo a los varios humedales tales como pantanos, pinelands, hamacas y pocosins, entre otros. El nombre común de la planta se basa en sus raíces y rizomas rojos. Sus flores, que consisten en seis tepals amarillo claro, emergen desde mediados a finales del verano. La planta es a veces una mala hierba significativa en los pantanos comerciales de arándano.
