Riga (/ riːɡə /; Letón: Rīga, pronunciado (escuchar)) es la ciudad capital y más grande de Letonia. Con 693.064 habitantes (enero de 2014), Riga es la ciudad más grande de los Estados bálticos y alberga a más de un tercio de la población de Letonia. La ciudad se encuentra en el Golfo de Riga, en la desembocadura del Daugava. El territorio de Riga cubre 307,17 km2 y se encuentra entre 1 y 10 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en una llanura plana y arenosa. Riga fue fundada en 1201 y es un ex miembro de la Liga Hanseática.
