La distancia entre ambos extremos también puede evaluarse por una pluralidad de segmentos de acuerdo con una línea discontinua que pasa a través de los puntos de inflexión sucesivos. El cálculo de la sinuosidad es válido en un espacio tridimensional, aunque a menudo se realiza en un plano.
