El sistema somatosensorial es un complejo sistema sensorial. Se compone de una serie de receptores diferentes, incluyendo termorreceptores, fotorreceptores, mecanorreceptores y quimiorreceptores. También comprende centros de procesamiento esenciales, o modalidades sensoriales, tales como propriocepción, mecanorrecepción, termocepción y nocicepción.
