QUÉ SIGNIFICA TAGUS EN INGLÉS
Tajo
El Tajo es el río más largo de la Península Ibérica. Tiene 1.038 km de longitud, 716 km en España, 47 km a lo largo de la frontera entre Portugal y España y 275 km en Portugal, donde desemboca en el Océano Atlántico cerca de Lisboa. Drena un área de 80.100 kilómetros cuadrados. El Tajo es altamente utilizado para la mayor parte de su curso. Varias represas y diversiones abastecen de agua potable a la mayor parte del centro de España, incluyendo Madrid y Portugal, mientras que decenas de estaciones hidroeléctricas crean energía. Entre presas se sigue un curso muy estrecho, pero después de Almourol entra en un vasto valle aluvial propenso a las inundaciones. En su desembocadura se encuentra un gran estuario en el que se encuentra la ciudad portuaria de Lisboa. La fuente del Tajo es la Fuente de García, en el término municipal Frías de Albarracín, Montes Universales, Sistema Ibérico, Comarca de Sierra de Albarracín. Todos sus afluentes principales entran en el Tajo desde la orilla derecha. Las principales ciudades por las que pasa son Aranjuez, Toledo, Talavera de la Reina y Alcántara en España, y Abrantes, Santarém, Almada y Lisboa en Portugal.
