Momento, momento o momento de fuerza, es la tendencia de una fuerza a girar un objeto alrededor de un eje, fulcro o pivote. Así como una fuerza es un empuje o un tirón, un par puede ser pensado como un giro a un objeto. Matemáticamente, el par se define como el producto cruzado del vector de distancia de brazo de palanca y el vector de fuerza, que tiende a producir rotación. Hablando francamente, el par es una medida de la fuerza de giro sobre un objeto tal como un perno o un volante. Por ejemplo, empujar o tirar el mango de una llave conectada a una tuerca o perno produce un par que afloja o aprieta la tuerca o perno. El símbolo de torque es típicamente τ, la letra griega tau. La magnitud del par depende de tres magnitudes: la fuerza aplicada, la longitud del brazo de palanca que conecta el eje al punto de aplicación de la fuerza, y el ángulo entre el vector de fuerza y el brazo de palanca.
