Torsión (mecánica)
En la mecánica de sólidos, la torsión es la torsión de un objeto debido a un par aplicado. Se expresa en metros de Newton o fuerza de libra. En secciones perpendiculares al eje de torsión, la tensión de cizalla resultante en esta sección es perpendicular al radio. Para ejes de sección transversal uniforme la torsión es: donde: ▪ T es el par aplicado o momento de torsión en Nm. ▪ es el esfuerzo cortante máximo en la superficie exterior ▪ JT es la constante de torsión para la sección. Es idéntico al segundo momento del área Jzz para tubos circulares concéntricos o ejes sólidos redondos solamente. Para otras formas, J debe determinarse por otros medios. Para ejes sólidos, la analogía de membrana es útil, y para tubos de pared delgada de forma arbitraria, la aproximación de flujo de corte es bastante buena, si la sección no es reentrante. Para tubos de paredes gruesas de forma arbitraria, no hay solución simple, y el análisis de elementos finitos puede ser el mejor método. ▪ r es la distancia entre el eje de rotación y el punto más lejano de la sección. ▪ ℓ es la longitud del objeto al que se aplica el par.
