En geometría, un toro es una superficie de revolución generada girando un círculo en un espacio tridimensional alrededor de un eje coplanar con el círculo. Si el eje de revolución no toca el círculo, la superficie tiene forma de anillo y se denomina toro de anillo o simplemente toro si la forma de anillo está implícita. Cuando el eje es tangente al círculo, la superficie resultante se denomina toro de cuerno; Cuando el eje es un acorde del círculo, se llama toro del husillo. Un caso degenerado es cuando el eje es un diámetro del círculo, que simplemente genera una esfera 2. El toro del anillo limita un sólido conocido como un toroide. El adjetivo toroidal se puede aplicar a toros, toroides o, más generalmente, a cualquier forma de anillo como en inductores toroidales y transformadores. Ejemplos del mundo real de objetos toroidales incluyen donuts, vadais, tubos internos, bagels, muchos lifebuoys, O-rings y anillos del vórtice. En la topología, un toro del anillo es homeomorfo al producto cartesiano de dos círculos: S1 × S1, y el último se toma para ser la definición en ese contexto. Es un compacto 2-manifold del género 1.
