Venta de lavado
Una venta de lavado, es una venta de una garantía a pérdida y una recompra de la misma o sustancialmente idéntica seguridad poco antes o después. Las regulaciones en torno a las ventas de lavado son para proteger contra un inversor que tiene una pérdida no realizada y desea hacer que se pueda reclamar como una deducción de impuestos dentro del año fiscal en curso. La garantía es entonces recomprada con la esperanza de recuperar su valor anterior, que sólo se convertiría en imponible en algún año fiscal futuro. Una venta de lavado puede tener lugar en cualquier momento durante el año. En el Reino Unido, una práctica similar que tiene lugar específicamente al final de un año calendario, se conoce como Bed and breakfasting. En una transacción de desayunar, se vende una posición el último día de negociación del año para establecer una pérdida fiscal. La misma posición se recompra pronto en la primera sesión del nuevo año comercial, para restaurar la posición. El término, por lo tanto, deriva su nombre de la venta tardía y la recompra temprano por la mañana. En algunos códigos tributarios, como los EE.UU. y el Reino Unido, se han introducido normas fiscales para prohibir la práctica, por ejemplo, si la acción se recompra dentro de los 30 días de su venta.
