Anormal es un conjunto subjetivo de características que se les da en un estado de fiebre o rareza. Establecer quién es normal y anormal es el problema que se disputa en la psicología anormal. Hay algunos criterios comunes. Un criterio simple rara vez es estadísticamente. Tiene una desventaja: la más inteligente, honesta o feliz es la misma que la anormal. Por lo tanto, los hábitos anormales se consideran estadísticos e indeseables. El criterio más detallado es inquieto. Alguien que muestra depresión, preocupaciones, malhumor, etc. se considera anormal. Desafortunadamente, muchos desconocen su propio estado mental y, si bien pueden recibir ayuda, no sienten la necesidad de obtenerla. Otros criterios son morales. Esto genera muchos problemas porque es imposible llegar a un acuerdo sobre un conjunto moral para fines de diagnóstico. Un criterio común es la mala adaptabilidad. Si una persona se comporta de una manera que destruye su condición, se considera inadaptada. Aunque es más estricto que los criterios anteriores, también tiene debilidades.
