De acuerdo con las enseñanzas de Buda, la ley karma establece: "Por cada evento que suceda, será seguido por otros eventos que ocurran como resultado del primer evento, y este segundo evento traerá favores o dependerá de la causa del primer evento". Si el primer evento no ocurre debido a la lujuria, la codicia y las malas cualidades, entonces el creador obtendrá placer y felicidad. Mientras que si el primer evento se debe a la lujuria y todas las malas cualidades, entonces los fabricantes lo recibirán. De acuerdo con Chandogya Upanishad, uno de los libros del hinduismo, la doctrina del karma establece que aquellos que son encomiables serán incluidos en el útero ya sea Brahmin, Kshatriya o Vaisya; pero los que no tienen culpa irán al podrido útero de un perro o un kinzir. En otras palabras, cada ser humano tiene que ser responsable de todo lo que se hace y recibirá la recompensa correcta.
