Austral - Unidad monetaria argentina, vigente desde el 15 de junio de 1985 hasta fines de 1991, ISO 4217 - Código ARA. El símbolo de esta moneda era la letra mayúscula "A" con doble tachado horizontal. Reemplazó el antiguo peso argentino, con 1 australiano emitido a cambio de 1000 pesos. 1 austral se dividió en 100 centavos, se emitieron monedas de ½, 1, 5, 10 y 50 centavos. Una moneda de medio centavo solo se emitió en 1985, y más tarde, debido a su bajo valor, salió de circulación. En 1985 y 1986, se emitieron billetes con valores nominales de 1, 5, 10, 50 y 100 ARA, en 1988 - 500 y 1000 ARA. La alta inflación en Argentina obligó al banco central del país a emitir denominaciones australianas cada vez más altas, y seis años después de la introducción de la moneda, a otro intercambio de dinero. Desde el 1 de enero de 1992, el austral fue reemplazado por el nuevo peso argentino, en la proporción de 10,000 australianos por 1 peso.

Zastąpił dawne argentyńskie peso, przy czym 1 australa wydawano w zamian za 1000 peso. 1 austral dzielił się na 100 centavo, wydano monety o wartościach ½, 1, 5, 10 i 50 centavo. Monetę pół centavo emitowano tylko w ciągu roku 1985, później ze względu na niską jej wartość wyszła z obiegu. W 1985 i 1986 wyemitowano banknoty o nominałach 1, 5, 10, 50 i 100 ARA, w 1988 - 500 i 1000 ARA. Wysoka inflacja w Argentynie zmusiła bank centralny tego kraju do emitowania kolejnych coraz wyższych nominałów australa, a już po sześciu latach od wprowadzenia tej waluty – do kolejnej wymiany pieniędzy. Od 1 stycznia 1992 austral zastąpiony został przez nowe argentyńskie peso, w proporcji 10.000 australi za 1 peso.
