Hermes - en la mitología griega dios de los caminos, viajeros, mercaderes, pastores, ladrones, mensajero de dioses y psicópata. Hermes, como dios del comercio, tenía que haber dominado las técnicas de negociación, por lo que era considerado un dios de "pronunciación convincente". Y como estaba a un paso de los antojos habituales, Hermes era también el guardián de los ladrones, lo que era más una broma que una verdadera. Uno de los 12 dioses olímpicos. Luego donó el cordero del intestino de la ternera y el caparazón de la tortuga, aliviando así la ira de Apollina. A cambio, recibió como señal de poder la vara de un heraldo, llamada caduceo, trenzada con dos serpientes, argumentos calmantes y disputas. Al comienzo de su estancia en los Juegos Olímpicos, robó a la mayoría de los dioses.

Hymn homerowy do Hermesa opowiada, że jako niemowlę ukradł Apollinowi stado krów, sprytnie myląc ślady. Następnie podarował bratu lirę z jelit cielęcych i skorupy żółwia, czym złagodził gniew Apollina. W zamian otrzymał jako oznakę władzy laskę herolda, zwaną kaduceuszem, oplecioną dwoma wężami, uśmierzającą spory i kłótnie. Na początku swojego pobytu na Olimpie okradł większość bogów.
