Marcapasos cardiaco
Un marcapasos es un dispositivo médico que emite impulsos eléctricos transmitidos a través de electrodos que están en contacto con los músculos del corazón para regular los latidos del corazón. El dispositivo electrónico miniaturizado emite un ritmo regular de excitación para un corazón con centros fisiológicos incapaces de proporcionar una frecuencia cardíaca normal. Una de las condiciones más comunes que llevan a la necesidad de usar un marcapasos se llama braquicardia, es decir, la frecuencia cardíaca es demasiado baja para cumplir con los requisitos del cuerpo. Los primeros marcapasos aparecieron y fueron implantados en 1958 por Siemens-Elema en Suecia.
