Abbevillian
Abbevillian est un nom actuellement obsolète pour une tradition d'outils qui va de plus en plus s'appeler Oldowan. Les artefacts d'origine ont été collectés dans les chantiers de construction routière sur la Somme près d'Abbeville par un douanier français Boucher de Perthes. Il a publié ses résultats en 1836. Par la suite, Louis Laurent Gabriel de Mortillet, professeur d'anthropologie préhistorique à l'École d'anthropologie de Paris, a publié "Le préhistorique, antiquité de l'homme", dans lequel il a été le premier à caractériser les périodes sous son nom D'un site. Beaucoup de ses noms sont toujours utilisés. Ses deux premiers étaient Chellean et Acheulean. Chellean comprenait des objets découverts dans la ville de Chelles, une banlieue de Paris. Ils sont semblables à ceux trouvés à Abbeville. Plus tard, les anthropologues ont remplacé Abbevillian pour Chellean, ce dernier qui n'est plus utilisé.
