En psychologie, la sensation et la perception sont des étapes de traitement des sens dans les systèmes humains et animaux, tels que les sens de la vision, de l'audition, du vestibule et de la douleur. Ce sujet comprend l'étude d'illusions telles que l'effet post-mouvement, la constance des couleurs, les illusions auditives et la perception de la profondeur. En d'autres termes, les sensations sont les premières étapes du fonctionnement des sens pour représenter les stimuli de l'environnement, et la perception est une fonction plus élevée du cerveau sur l'interprétation des événements et des objets dans le monde.
