Akeake
Akeake est le nom d'au moins trois espèces d'arbres néo-zélandaises: ▪ Dodonaea viscosa ▪ Olearia traversiorum ▪ Olearia avicenniaefolia Akeake est un petit arbre. Le nom remonte à l'époque pré-européenne lorsqu'il a été utilisé dans différentes régions de la Nouvelle-Zélande. Dans les temps post-européens, il est utilisé le plus souvent, mais pas exclusivement, pour Dodonaea viscosa. Akeake est un mot maori signifiant «terre pauvre ou infertile». Mais le nom de l'arbre est généralement considéré comme dérivé de l'expression ake ake, qui signifie «pour toujours et toujours» et se réfère probablement à la dureté du bois. C'est le plus lourd des bois néo-zélandais et traditionnellement utilisé comme bois dur pour fabriquer des outils de guerre, des bâtons de marche sculptés, des haches et des poids sur les arbres de forage.
