Anosmie
L'anosmie est l'incapacité de percevoir l'odeur ou le manque d'olfaction fonctionnelle. L'anosmie peut être temporaire, mais l'anosmie traumatique peut être permanente. L'anosmie est due à une inflammation de la muqueuse nasale; Blocage des passages nasaux ou destruction d'un lobe temporal. Plus précisément, selon le journal The Lancet, l'inflammation est due aux changements chroniques de la muqueuse dans la doublure des sinus paranasaux et aux corniches intermédiaires et supérieurs. Puisque l'anosmie provoque des changements inflammatoires dans les voies de passage nasales, elle est traitée en réduisant simplement la présence d'inflammation. Elle peut être causée par une méningite chronique et une neurosyphilis qui augmenterait la pression intracrânienne sur une longue période de temps et, dans certains cas, par une ciliopathie, y compris une ciliopathie due à une dyskinésie ciliaire primaire. Beaucoup de patients peuvent éprouver une anosmie unilatérale, souvent en raison d'un traumatisme crânien mineur. Ce type d'anosmie n'est normalement détecté que si les deux ailes sont testées séparément.
