Azeotrope
Un azéotrope est un mélange de deux liquides ou plus dont les proportions ne peuvent être modifiées par simple distillation. Cela se produit parce que, lorsqu'un azéotrope est bouilli, la vapeur a les mêmes proportions de constituants que le mélange non bouilli. Parce que leur composition est inchangée par distillation, les azéotropes sont également appelés mélanges bouillants constants. Le mot azeotrope est dérivé des mots grecs ζένιν et τρόπος combinés avec le préfixe α- pour donner le sens global, "pas de changement sur l'ébullition". Des mélanges azéotropes de paires de composés ont été documentés, et de nombreux azéotropes de trois ou plusieurs composés sont également connus. Ce sont des mélanges binaires ayant la même composition en phase liquide et vapeur et ébullition à température constante. Dans ce cas, il n'est pas possible de séparer les composants par distillation fractionnée. Il existe deux types d'azéotropes: un azéotrope à ébullition minimum et un azéotrope à ébullition maximum. Une solution qui montre une plus grande déviation positive par rapport à la loi de Raoult forme un azeotrope d'ébullition minimum à une composition spécifique.
