Basra
Basra, également écrit Basrah, est la capitale du gouvernorat de Basra, situé sur la rivière Shatt al-Arab dans le sud de l'Irak entre le Koweït et l'Iran. Il avait une population estimée à 952 441 en 2007 et à 3,5 millions de 2012. Basra est également le principal port de l'Irak, bien qu'il ne dispose pas d'accès en eau profonde, qui est traité au port d'Umm Qasr. La ville fait partie de l'emplacement historique de Sumer, la maison de Sinbad the Sailor, et un emplacement proposé du jardin d'Eden. Il a joué un rôle important dans l'histoire islamique initiale et a été construit en 636 CE ou 14 AH. C'est la deuxième ville la plus grande et la plus peuplée d'Irak après Bagdad. Basra est toujours l'une des villes les plus chaudes de la planète, avec des températures estivales régulièrement d'au moins 45 degrés Celsius.
