Benomyl
Benomyl est un fongicide introduit en 1968 par DuPont. C'est un fongicide benzimidazole systémique qui est sélectivement toxique pour les microorganismes et les invertébrés, en particulier les vers de terre. Le benomyl se lie aux microtubules, entravant les fonctions cellulaires, comme la méiose et le transport intracellulaire. La toxicité sélective du benomyl comme fongicide est probablement due à son effet accru sur les microtubules fongiques plutôt que chez les mammifères. En raison du développement et de la prévalence mondiale de la résistance des champignons parasites au benomyl, ce composé et les composés pesticides similaires sont devenus largement inefficaces. Les coûts juridiques élevés associés à cela ont empêché DuPont de cesser sa production en 2001 après 33 ans sur le marché et a volontairement demandé l'annulation pour son enregistrement. Cependant, comme les brevets de DuPont ont expiré depuis longtemps et dans certains pays, l'enregistrement de Benomyl n'a pas été révoqué, d'autres fabricants le produisent encore.
