Boilover
Un type d'incendie se réfère à une situation extrêmement dangereuse où une tentative est faite d'éteindre l'huile semi-fermée ou le pétrole à combustible pétrole avec de l'eau. Le danger résulte de la différence de densité entre l'huile et l'eau. Boilover est également fréquent dans la maison comme un feu de copeaux lors de la cuisson. Lorsque l'eau est versée sur le carburant, elle coule rapidement au fond du récipient en raison de la densité plus élevée de l'eau et a peu d'effet sur l'extinction des flammes sur la surface. L'eau sur le fond se vaporise rapidement en vapeur, ce qui l'amène à augmenter plus de 1700 fois en volume. La vapeur en pleine expansion expulse l'huile ou le carburant au-dessus et à l'extérieur du récipient, ce qui entraîne la décharge d'huile brûlante sur une grande zone incontrôlée à l'extérieur du récipient. L'huile devient si chaude qu'elle attrape le feu tout seul L'eau est versée dans le récipient L'eau est plus dense que l'huile, de sorte qu'elle coule vers le bas. Comme l'eau touche le fond, elle est chauffée au-dessus de son point d'ébullition et se vaporise instantanément.
