Herbe canarienne
L'herbe canarienne est une plante, Phalaris canariensis, appartenant à la famille Poaceae. À l'origine originaire de la région méditerranéenne, il est maintenant cultivé dans diverses régions du monde pour les graines d'oiseaux. Cette grande herbe grossière a des tiges dressées, sans poils, généralement de 2 à 6 pieds de hauteur. La ligule est proéminente et membraneuse, ¼ de pouce de long et arrondie au sommet. Les lames de feuilles graduellement effilées ont une longueur de 3½ à 10 pouces, ¼ ¾ pouces de large, plates et souvent sévères sur les deux surfaces. Les panicules compactes sont érigées ou parfois légèrement étalées et vont de 3 à 16 pouces de long avec des branches de ½-1 ½ pouces de long. Les fleurs simples se produisent dans des grappes denses en mai à mi-juin ou en août. Les inflorescences sont vertes ou légèrement violetes d'abord, puis dorment. Production de graines de canaris en 2006 Les graines sont brun brillant. La graine est utilisée comme aliment pour oiseaux et est généralement mélangée avec du colza et d'autres graines qui l'abaissent. Il doit être conservé dans un endroit sec et loin des parasites. Sur le plan industriel, une farine fabriquée à partir de graines est utilisée dans la fabrication de produits finis en coton et de soie. L'herbe à canette est une culture de fourrage pérenne et une herbe sauvage.
