En mathématiques et en physique, le centroïde ou le centre géométrique d'une région bidimensionnelle est, de façon informelle, le point où une découpe en carton de la région pourrait être parfaitement équilibrée sur la pointe d'un crayon, en supposant une densité uniforme et une gravitation uniforme champ. Formalement, le centroïde d'une forme plane ou bidimensionnelle est la position moyenne arithmétique de tous les points de la forme. La définition s'étend à tout objet dans l'espace n-dimensionnel: son centroïde est la position moyenne de tous les points dans toutes les directions de coordonnées. Alors que dans la géométrie, le terme barycentre est synonyme de «centroïde», en «barycentre» de la physique, peut également signifier le centre de masse physique ou le centre de gravité selon le contexte. Le centre de masse est la moyenne arithmétique de tous les points pondérés par la densité locale ou le poids spécifique. Si un objet physique a une densité uniforme, son centre de masse est le même que le centre de sa forme. En géographie, le centroïde d'une projection radiale d'une région du niveau de la surface terrestre à la mer est connu sous le nom de centre géographique de la région.
