Anno Domini et Before Christ sont des désignations utilisées pour étiqueter ou nombre d'années utilisées avec les calendriers julien et grégorien. Le terme Anno Domini est le latin médiéval, traduit comme dans l'année du Seigneur, et comme dans l'année de Notre-Seigneur: 782 Il est parfois spécifié plus complètement comme Anno Domini Nostri Iesu Christi. Cette ère du calendrier est basée sur l'année traditionnellement comptée de la conception ou de la naissance de Jésus de Nazareth, avec AD compter des années depuis le début de cette époque, et en Colombie-Britannique dénotant des années avant le début de l'ère. Il n'y a pas d'année zéro dans ce régime, donc l'année AD 1 suit immédiatement l'année 1 avant JC. Ce système de datation a été conçu en 525, mais n'a pas été largement utilisé avant après 800. Le calendrier grégorien est le calendrier le plus répandu au monde aujourd'hui. Depuis des décennies, le standard international non officiel, adopté pour les intérêts pragmatiques de la communication internationale, du transport et de l'intégration commerciale, est reconnu par des institutions internationales telles que les Nations Unies et l'Union postale universelle.
