Cladophora
Cladophora est un genre d'Ulvophyceae filamenteuse réticulée. Le genre Cladophora contient de nombreuses espèces qui sont très difficiles à distinguer et à classer, principalement en raison de la grande variation de leur apparence, qui est affectée par l'habitat, l'âge et les conditions environnementales. Contrairement à Spirogyra, les filaments de Cladophora branchent et ne se conjugue pas. Il existe deux étapes multicellulaires dans son cycle de vie - un gamétophyte haploïde et un sporophyte diploïde - qui semblent très semblables. La seule façon de distinguer les deux étapes consiste à compter leurs chromosomes ou à examiner leurs descendants. Le gamétophyte haploïde produit des gamètes haploïdes par mitoses et le sporophyte diploïde produit des spores haploïdes par la méiose. La seule différence visible entre les gamètes et les spores de Cladophora est que les gamètes ont deux flagelles et que les spores ont quatre. Les espèces de Cladophora peuvent constituer une nuisance majeure provoquant une altération majeure des conditions benthiques liées notamment à une augmentation du taux de phosphore.
