Contrôle scientifique
Un contrôle scientifique est une expérience ou une observation conçue pour minimiser les effets de variables autres que la variable indépendante unique. Cela augmente la fiabilité des résultats, souvent par une comparaison entre les mesures de contrôle et les autres mesures. Les contrôles scientifiques font partie de la méthode scientifique. Un exemple d'un contrôle expérimental pourrait tester l'engrais végétal en lui donnant seulement la moitié des plantes dans un jardin: les plantes qui ne reçoivent pas d'engrais sont le groupe témoin, car elles établissent le niveau de croissance de base que les plantes traitées par engrais seront Contre. Sans groupe de contrôle, l'expérience ne peut pas déterminer si les plantes traitées par engrais se développent plus qu'elles ne le seraient si elles n'étaient pas traitées. Idéalement, toutes les variables d'une expérience seront contrôlées et aucune ne sera incontrôlée. Dans une telle expérience, si tous les contrôles fonctionnent comme prévu, il est possible de conclure que l'expérience fonctionne comme prévu et que les résultats de l'expérience sont dues à l'effet de la variable testée.
