Le debye (symbole: D) est une unité CGS (une unité métrique non-SI) du moment du dipôle électrique nommé en l'honneur du physicien Peter J. W. Debye. Historiquement, le debye a été défini comme le moment dipolique résultant de deux charges de signe opposé, mais une grandeur égale de 10-10 statcoulomb (généralement appelée e.s.u (unité électrostatique) dans une littérature plus ancienne), qui ont été séparés par 1 ångström. Bromure de potassium en phase gazeuse, KBr, avec un moment dipolaire de 10,5 D. Le debye est encore utilisé dans la physique atomique et la chimie car les unités SI sont gênantes.
