Capacitance
La capacitance est la capacité d'un corps à stocker une charge électrique. Tout objet pouvant être chargé électriquement présente une capacité. Une forme commune de dispositif de stockage d'énergie est un condensateur à plaque parallèle. Dans un condensateur à plaque parallèle, la capacité est directement proportionnelle à la surface des plaques conductrices et inversement proportionnelle à la distance de séparation entre les plaques. Si les charges sur les plaques sont + q et -q respectivement, et V donne la tension entre les plaques, la capacité C est donnée par laquelle donne la relation tension / courant. La capacité n'est fonction que de la géométrie des conducteurs et La permittivité du diélectrique. Il est indépendant de la différence de potentiel entre les conducteurs et la charge totale sur eux. L'unité SI de la capacité est le farad, nommé d'après le physicien anglais Michael Faraday. Un 1 condensateur Farad, lorsqu'il est chargé avec 1 coulomb de charge électrique, a une différence de potentiel de 1 volt entre ses plaques. Historiquement, un farad a été considéré comme une unité incroyablement grande, à la fois électriquement et physiquement.
