Flushwork
Dans l'architecture, flushwork est la combinaison décorative sur le même plan plat de silex et de pierre de sillis. Si la pierre se projette d'un mur de silex plat, le terme est fier, car la pierre est «fière» plutôt que d'être «affleurante» avec le mur. Les bâtiments refoulés appartiennent au style perpendiculaire de l'architecture gothique anglaise. Il est caractéristique des murs extérieurs des bâtiments médiévaux - la plupart des survivants étant des églises - dans certaines parties du sud de l'Angleterre et surtout de l'Anglie orientale. Flushwork commence au début du 14ème siècle, mais la période de pointe a été pendant le boom de laine entre environ 1450 et la réforme anglaise des années 1520, lorsque le bâtiment de l'église a pratiquement cessé et la construction en brique est devenue plus à la mode. La technique a continué dans un usage occasionnel, et a vu un renouveau majeur au 19ème siècle, et est encore parfois utilisé dans un style moderne aujourd'hui, ainsi que pour la restauration ou l'extension de bâtiments anciens.
