Glamorgan
Glamorgan ou, parfois, Glamorganshire (Welsh: Morgannwg ou Sir Forgannwg) est l'un des treize comtés historiques du pays de Galles et ancien comté administratif du pays de Galles. C'était à l'origine un petit royaume médiéval médiéval de différentes frontières connu sous le nom de Glywysing jusqu'à ce qu'il soit occupé par les Normands en tant que seigneurie. Glamorgan est récemment représenté par les trois comtés préservés de Mid Glamorgan, South Glamorgan et West Glamorgan. Le nom survit également à celui de Vale of Glamorgan, un arrondissement de comté. Bien que, initialement, une zone rurale et pastorale de peu de valeur, la région connue sous le nom de Glamorgan était un point de conflit entre les seigneurs normands et les princes gallois, la région étant définie par une grande concentration de châteaux. Après être tombé sous la domination anglaise au 16ème siècle, Glamorgan est devenu un comté plus stable et a exploité ses ressources naturelles pour devenir une partie importante de la révolution industrielle. Glamorgan était le comté le plus peuplé et le plus industrialisé du Pays de Galles, et a été appelé le «creuset de la révolution industrielle», car il contenait les centres mondiaux de trois industries métallurgiques et ses riches ressources en charbon.
