Hypermart USA a été un projet de démonstration exploité par Wal-Mart dans les années 1980 et 1990, qui a tenté de combiner les produits d'épicerie et les marchandises générales sous un même toit avec une importante réduction. Le concept hypermart a été inspiré des efforts antérieurs d'autres détaillants, notamment le détaillant français Carrefour, et le détaillant Midwest américain Meijer. Les magasins du Texas ont été exploités en partenariat avec Cullum Companies, ancien propriétaire des supermarchés Tom Thumb. Tous les magasins ont utilisé un plancher qui dépasse 220 000 pieds carrés ... Ils ont présenté un mini-centre commercial, une salle de restauration, une salle de jeux, une banque et d'autres opérations de kiosque. Ceux de Kansas City et Topeka ont présenté McDonald's, Subway et Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen dans leurs cours de nourriture.
