Inducteur
En biologie moléculaire, un inducteur est une molécule qui commence l'expression des gènes. Un inducteur peut se lier à des répresseurs ou à des activateurs. Les inducteurs fonctionnent en désactivant les répresseurs. Le gène est exprimé car un inducteur se lie au répresseur. La liaison de l'inducteur au répresseur empêche le répresseur de se lier à l'opérateur. L'ARN polymérase peut alors commencer à transcrire les gènes opéroniques. Les inducteurs fonctionnent également en se liant aux activateurs. Les activateurs se lient généralement à des séquences d'ADN activatrices sauf si un inducteur est présent. L'activateur se lie à un inducteur et le complexe se lie à la séquence d'activation et active le gène cible. La suppression de l'inducteur arrête la transcription. Parce qu'une petite molécule inductrice est requise, l'expression accrue du gène cible est appelée induction. L'opéron lactose est un exemple d'un système inducible.
