Gothique international
Le gothique international est une phase de l'art gothique qui s'est développée en Bourgogne, en Bohême, en France et dans le nord de l'Italie à la fin du 14ème siècle et au début du 15ème siècle. Il s'est ensuite répandu très largement en Europe occidentale, d'où le nom de la période, qui a été introduite par l'historien de l'art français Louis Courajod à la fin du 19ème siècle. Au cours de cette période, des artistes et des œuvres portables, comme des manuscrits éclairés, ont voyagé largement autour du continent, créant une esthétique commune parmi la royauté et une noblesse plus élevée et réduisant considérablement la variation des styles nationaux parmi les œuvres produites pour les élites courtoises. Les influences principales étaient le nord de la France, le duché de Bourgogne, la cour impériale à Prague et l'Italie. Des mariages royaux comme celui de Richard II d'Angleterre et Anne de Bohême ont également contribué à diffuser le style. C'était initialement un style de sophistication courtoise, mais des versions un peu plus robustes se sont répandues dans l'art commandé par les classes mercantiles émergentes et la plus petite noblesse.
