Voile terrestre
La navigation terrestre, connue sous le nom de yachting en sable ou de voile terrestre, est l'acte de se déplacer à travers les terres dans un véhicule à trois roues propulsé par le vent à l'aide d'une voile. Le terme provient de l'analogie avec la navigation. Historiquement, la navigation terrestre était utilisée comme mode de transport ou de loisirs. Depuis les années 1950, il a évolué principalement en sport de course. Les véhicules utilisés dans la voile sont connus sous le nom de wagons à voile, yachts de sable ou yachts terrestres. Ils ont généralement trois roues et fonctionnent comme un voilier, sauf qu'ils sont actionnés par une position assise ou couchée et dirigés par des pédales ou des leviers à main. La navigation terrestre fonctionne mieux dans les zones accidentées, et les courses se produisent souvent sur les plages, les aérodromes et les lits secs dans les régions désertiques. Les marins terrestres modernes, généralement appelés «pilotes», peuvent aller trois à quatre fois plus vite que la vitesse du vent. Une rafale de vent est considérée comme plus bénéfique dans une course de voile terrestre que par un coupe-vent favorable. Un sport similaire, connu sous le nom de yachts à la glace, est pratiqué sur les lacs et les rivières gelés.
