Papillome
Le papillome se réfère à une tumeur épithéliale bénigne qui augmente exophytiquement dans des frondes de type mamelon et souvent de doigt. Dans ce contexte, la papille se réfère à la projection créée par la tumeur, pas une tumeur sur une papille déjà existante. Lorsqu'il est utilisé sans contexte, il se réfère souvent aux infections causées par le virus du papillome humain, comme les verrues. L'infection par le papillomavirus humain est une cause majeure de cancer du col de l'utérus, bien que la plupart des infections par HPV ne causent pas de cancer. Il existe toutefois un certain nombre d'autres conditions qui causent le papillome, ainsi que de nombreux cas où il n'existe aucune cause connue.
