Dans la mythologie grecque, Pélops, était roi de Pise dans le Péloponnèse. Son père, Tantalus, était le fondateur de la Maison d'Atreus à travers le fils de ce nom. Il a été vénéré à Olympie, où son culte est devenu le mythe fondateur des Jeux Olympiques, l'expression la plus importante de l'unité, non seulement pour le Péloponnèse, l'île de Pelops, mais pour tout le Hellène.
